What the Wheel of Plunder actually pays in Captain & Company

2026-09-04

The Wheel of Plunder takes 1,000 doubloons a pull. This is what it gives back, taken from the live drop table on 4 September 2026 rather than from anybody's memory of it.

The top level

Every pull rolls once against a weighted table of five outcomes. The weights total 10,000, so they convert straight to percentages.

OutcomeWeightChance
Doubloons5,20052.00%
Nothing4,66546.65%
Land crystal1001.00%
Nuggies300.30%
A cosmetic hat50.05%

Just under half of all pulls return nothing at all. That is the wheel working as designed rather than a run of bad luck, and it is what pays for the other half.

When it pays doubloons

The doubloon outcome is a second roll, over five amounts, weighted out of 100.

AmountWeightChance of this amount, per pull
1,0004020.80%
1,4003015.60%
2,000189.36%
3,50094.68%
6,50031.56%

A doubloon hit averages 1,690. Since 52 percent of pulls reach that table, the expected doubloon return is 878.8 per pull, against a price of 1,000.

That is the number worth carrying away: in doubloons alone the wheel returns about 87.9 percent of what a pull costs. The remaining value is in the three rarer outcomes, and whether they make up the difference depends entirely on what a land crystal is worth to you, which is a judgement about the land market and not something the drop table can answer.

The smallest doubloon prize is 1,000, which exactly returns the price of the pull. It is also the most likely doubloon result at 20.8 percent of all pulls, so the single most common way to win is to break even.

The rare outcomes

Land crystal, 1 in 100. One crystal, no variation in the amount.

Nuggies, 3 in 1,000. Six equally weighted amounts: 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 or 50. The average is 37.5, so nuggies contribute about 0.11 nuggies per pull across a long run.

A cosmetic hat, 1 in 2,000. The pool holds 19 hats, each equally likely: Straw Hat, Horned Helm, Scallywag's Patch, Rose-tinted Monocle, Tinkerer's Goggles, Carnival Mask, Fishing Cap, Barnacle Buster, Riskiiit's Razor, Alfa's Glitterhorn, Abster's Cap, Retsba's Cap, Ruyui's Cap, Bearish Cap, Noot's Cap, Gugo's Cap, Ringmaster, Bigcoin Dream, and the Tricorne of Falsehoods.

Because the hat is picked uniformly once the 0.05 percent branch is hit, any one specific hat is roughly a 1 in 38,000 pull. If you are chasing a particular hat rather than any hat, that is the number that applies to you, and it is the one most easily got wrong.

Ten thousand pulls, in round terms

At 1,000 doubloons a pull, ten thousand pulls costs ten million doubloons and returns, on expectation:

Why the published figures elsewhere may not match

The wheel has been retuned more than once. The pull price was cut from 10,000 doubloons to 1,000 in round 28, and the payout table was then adjusted to match the new price. Anything written before that describes a different wheel.

Every number above was read out of the production drop tables on 4 September 2026, not from the migration that last changed them. Those two had already diverged: the migration that retuned the wheel for the 1,000 doubloon pull set the doubloon rungs to 1,200, 1,500, 2,000, 3,000 and 5,000, and the live table now runs 1,000, 1,400, 2,000, 3,500 and 6,500 on different weights. The live table is the one the game rolls against.
